Location:

Between the eight cornered Lake and the Lakshadweep Sea, at the Southern extremity of a network of backwaters lies Kollam beach towards 63 kms of north of Trivandrum.

How to Reach:

Reaching to Kollam is extremely non-hassled task. If you choose to fly then move to Thiruvananathapuram International Airport. The rail head Kollam Junction is connected to Mumbai to Kanyakumari and many other parts of the nation. Kollam is served by three national highways. It is on NH47 that links Salem to Kanyakumari via Palakkad.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to reach Kollam is between August to March.

Thevally Palace:

The Thevally Palace, currently used by the army is ideally viewed from the lake. Most of it has been painted over or whitewashed that gives the palace a rustic look.

Ashtamudi Backwate:

A houseboat trip is a must in your Kollam itinerary. DTP Kollam offers a number of rides along Asthamudi Lake and its offshoot canals. There are also plenty of private operators at the jetty near the bus station.

Thankassery:

Located at 5 kilometers from Kollam, it possess the amazing legacy of the Portuguese and Dutch culture in form of magnificent forts. Legend has it that the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British ruled this place in succession. A 45 meter high lighthouse is a major attraction to the visiting tourist.

Paravoor:

Paravoor, 20 kilometers from Kollam, is a narrow land expanding between the backwaters and the sea. The famous Varkala beach is a mere 15 kilometers drive from here. Paravoor is well connected by road and rail.
